Things that left me speechless. Art, science, people, animals, plants, clouds. Anything that awakes my awe for the universe, life and my fellow earthlings.
It´s a Personal website
I love the whole website but the journal is my fav! Troy Sucks is actually built by Aiden, a teenager (I don´t know yet who Troy is, but hopefully it´s not Queens of Stone Age guitarist!)
These days, everyone over 25 complains that younger generations are just lazy, doomscrolling, a waste! But Aiden, and many other teenagers, prove them wrong. Aiden´s journals, curiosity and creativity bring me joy and hope. Love from aunty Viki!
It´s a Magazine
Works in Progress presents itself as "a magazine of new and underrated ideas to improve the world" and it does the job magestically. Their illustrations are stunning, this is enough to visit the site and get inspired! The web design is sublime as well. You can read without distration in this beautiful interface. Data visualizations are gorgeous too. Just look at this!
But beyond the visuals, good writing happnes here. I am curious on a wide (maybe too wide?) variety of topics. This means that, if I try to read news and articles from dedicated magazines, they tend to be full of lingo and acronyms I am not yet familiar with. Works in Progress introduces us to Zica, Acid rain, Empathy, Urbanism... in a way that you actually learn and you have a sense of practical familiarity with how to fix the issues. First, I tend to be absorbed by the topic they are covering, but then, I notice the writing tricks the authors use to captivate me, and how I could implement them in my own writing. And, wow, they have a collaborative tool where writer´s drafts are public and readers can add notes and suggestions.
It´s an Artist
Coco collects old photos from flea markets and customizes them to create surrealist images. In some photos, she wraps humans in plastic bags. In others, she dresses them ready for carnival. In the series "Ma premiere communion", photos of children performing this Catholic rite are decorated with symbolism of other religion and pagan mythology. I love the sense of humor
Enjoy!
